FiveT Group donates €1 million to support UNICEF’s emergency efforts in Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as mothers and newborns in Ghana
FiveT Group will support UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, which provides conflict- and disaster-affected children with access to healthcare, nutrition, water, hygiene and sanitation services, education and protection.
Zurich, 18 February 2022 - FiveT Group has announced a €1 million donation to support the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). FiveT’s contribution will fund critical emergency aid in Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as help develop medical facilities in Ghana dedicated to mothers and newborns.
In Afghanistan and Yemen, FiveT Group will support UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, which provides conflict- and disaster-affected children with access to healthcare, nutrition, water, hygiene and sanitation services, education and protection.
In Ghana, UNICEF is working in partnership with the Government to improve access to quality maternal, newborn and child health services. Neonatal mortality accounts for nearly half of deaths of children under the age of five in Ghana. The contribution will support UNICEF’s Mother-Baby-Friendly Health Facility Initiative, which has already reduced neonatal mortality rates by 30% and maternal mortality by 50% in three hospitals in Ghana’s Upper East Region. FiveT Group’s donation will strengthen the quality of care for mothers and newborns by ensuring access to well-equipped and well-staffed health facilities, aiming to significantly reduce the mortality rate for women and children.
Bettina Junker, Executive Director of UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein, said: “Ghana is committed to align its development priorities in partnership with CSOs and the private sector to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and places a high priority on maternal and newborn health. Children have a right to a healthy start in life. The commitment of FiveT contributes to quality care provision in Ghana, as well as vital emergency aid in Afghanistan and Yemen. We thank FiveT for their incredible commitment to children around the world.”
Wieland Kreuder, the Chief Executive Officer of the FiveT Group, said: “Nobody has more potential than the world’s children. We have always sought to invest wisely to create a better future for all, and we are thankful that by working with UNICEF we are able to give children in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Ghana a better start to life.”
As the world’s leading agency for children, UNICEF relies primarily on voluntary contributions from governments and private donors, including companies, foundations, and individuals to help ensure every child in the world is given an opportunity to reach its full potential.
